Airline Frequent Flyer Privileges - Are Your Getting Your Fair Share?

So you have finally qualified as an airline frequent flyer, an achievement once looked upon with envy. It all looked so glamorous from the seat of the occasional flight traveller. The reality was far different, earning the title of an airline frequent flyer did not come with the label exciting, glamorous or even fun. It should have been obvious though, as the signs were all there. Airline frequent flyers are very obvious at airports. They are the ones with the bored expressions on their face, trying to distance themselves from the excited babble and chatter of the infrequent airline flyers.

Not only that, the well seasoned airline frequent flyer wastes no time moving from check-in to departure lounge. If he or she has earned enough points to gain entrance to the hallowed business or first-class lounge that is. Then with a fixed look on their face, their quick steps make a bee-line for those gilded doors. But after a while even this little luxury becomes as mundane as the whole flying affair. Don't get me wrong, it certainly helps, and the airlines know it too. These are one of the little rewards that keep the airline frequent flyer from totally sinking into a state of flight inspired despair.

It wasn't all that long ago that the airline frequent flyer only had to contend with peak hour traffic on th way to the airport. Even arriving 20 minutes before departure would, with a bit of a mad scramble, see you safely on board the plane. Nowadays, forget it! The frequent flyer has to allow not only for any road traffic congestion, but also the airport congestion. If you want to test your new found benevolence to your fellow man, obtained through hours of meditation and relaxation techniques, go catch the New York to LA flight during peak times. No amount of airline frequent flyer courtesy lounges makes up for this.

Take a moment here to consider the first class passengers. The bona-fide ones, that is. Regardless of whether they are frequent flyers or not, they have paid dearly for the privilege of travelling this way. Up until the airline frequent flyer programs they had their lounges all to themselves, with fellow well heeled travelling companions. Now, who knows who they will be rubbing shoulders with in the sanctity of their airport hang-out. It used to be oil tycoons, famous celebrities, and now we have the super shoppers who earned enough points for airline ticket upgrades because of the amount of groceries they bought on their frequent flyer credit card. Did I hear you say, something about us all being equal? Not so in the airport first class waiting lounge!

At the end of a busy working day, most of us just want to get home as quickly and stress free as possible. The airline frequent flyer is no different, they just have far more obstacles to overcome than the normal commuter. The reward programs for the airline frequent flyer certainly helps remove some of the stress of flying in today's changed airport climate, but there is so much more that could be done.
