Airline Frequent Flyer Miles
Airline frequent flyer miles are a value assigned to air travel, with usually one frequent flyer mile being awarded for every mile that is flown. Eventually these miles or points as they are sometimes called, can be redeemed for free airline tickets or ticket upgrades. The more miles that are able to be earned over the given period, which is usually a set yearly time, will place you in a certain level of the airline awards program. These levels are called different things by all programs but generally there will be several levels with an elite status which will all attract certain benefits and privileges. For the high-frequency airline flyer, it is these benefits or awarded miles that make the whole frequent flyer program worthwhile. Originally airline frequent flyer miles were only able to be earned from air travel. Since its conception in the early 1980's, the earning of these miles has been extended to hotels, car rentals, credit cards, online shopping, department stores, restaurants and gas stations, to name just a few. As you can see, the airline frequent flyer mile is available almost everywhere. They are certainly around in enough places that you can easily organise your spending so that it falls within the catchment of a frequent flyer program. The early problem with the airline frequent flyer miles is that they were only able to be redeemed for airline travel or upgrades. This was great for the airline traveler, and this loyalty program worked very well indeed. So well in fact, that it wasn't long before everyone wanted a little piece of the action. This has all been to the benefit of the consumer who is now able to participate and earn airline frequent flyer miles without ever having to set one foot inside an airplane. Great for those people who have no reason to catch a flight, or no desire to travel. Even thought their miles will accrue slower it is surprising how quickly they add up, particularly when all expenses are consolidated by way of a participating debit or credit card. Businesses are beginning to realise the benefits of keeping customers rather than finding new ones all the time. By awarding airline frequent flyer miles to loyal customers they not only keep the customer using their services time and time again, but the customer gets to feel that they really do benefit from the relationship. Particularly when their monthly statement arrives showing how many miles they have accrued. There's not too many of us that don't like gifts, and receiving a statement saying that we have enough frequent flyer miles accrued to take a holiday, book a flight, or even get some cash back, is like being given an unexpected gift when it is not your birthday. The fact that the airline frequent flyer miles can be redeemed for such cool stuff these days is also partly responsible for its phenomenal growth and success. And cool stuff it is. You only have to spend a few minutes looking at any of the frequent flyer catalogues to see that they really spend time in choosing items that are much sought after and represent good value for miles redeemed. This of course keeps not only the customer happy, but also the partner banks who more than likely provided the credit card for you to make the purchases with.
